While the Unicorn thrives on yellow ink, it always manage to maintains an upbeat and positive spin on the crown. Queen Vialle is a particular darling of the paper, though she has steadfastly refused to be interviewed.

THE DAILY UNICORN

March edition

Headline: The Royal Guild of Engineers settles out of court with the crown over the matter of self repairing masonry. While the settlement was private, sources say that the Guild was appeased with the promise of future work expanding the cities docks.

Story: Prince Gerard reorganizes the imperial fleet. With the long term absence of a second Admiral, Prince Gerard has recently committed to reorganizing the fleet to work better with the single Admiral system.
When asked about any possible replacements for the long deceased Prince Caine, Gerard replied, "I'd love to see the younger members of the nobility involved in the navy, but right now I don't know anyone I'd feel confident in recommending to the King."

Story: The yearly spring equinox ball was a grand success. Princess Floramel has once again succeeded in creating a beautiful spectacle in the golden halls. With a wonderful display of flowers specially imported from the golden circle, the castle was positively bursting with colors over the equinox weekend. In attendance was King Random, Queen Vialle, Princess Fiona, Prince Bleys...

June Edition

Headline: Amber farmers are dealing with serious crow problem this summer. An unusual influx of large crows has led to several farms adding scarecrows and hiring youths with pots and pans to drive the birds from their fields. Other farmers commented that this just drives the birds to eat their crops. It's hoped that the crows will not effect this years harvest greatly, though the actual damage is difficult to determine.

Story: Burning man spotted at castle. Nobles tight lipped as always. A humanoid figure, apparently on fire was reported to have crashed into the imperial court. Prince Gerard commented, "No comment." No further information could be obtained, but with our great leaders who know what kind of magic could be afoot.

Story: Sam Wilkins, proprietor of "Bloody Sam's" fish market and restaurant was found murdered last Tuesday. The mans body was found stuffed in a cooler, supposedly sliced open and gutted like a fish. The store will aparently remain open, as the man's silent partner has assumed managment. "Bloody Dave's" should be open in a day or two, once they wash all the gore out.

The Forest of Arden

If all roads lead to Amber, then all roads must pass through Arden. Prince Julian guards this forest with his cohort of Rangers, carefully watching the many entrances into this land. Julian also takes sport in hunting the creatures that sometimes make their way into Arden, drawn to its plentiful life and beauty.

Arden is a separate world from Amber, but it is still of a greater reality than common shadow. This is the closest that one can begin to readily shift shadows overland.

Casually riding from the edge of Arden to the Castle takes about six hours in good conditions with a normal mount.

A Strange Visitor.
A very odd being visited castle Amber. With a body warped and constantly shifting, the being seemed to be on fire. One way or the other, the visitor managed to make it the throne room where it offered an ominous warning before collapsing. The being was quickly taken to the Castle hospitall to receive medical care.

Posting Guidelines

1. Posting Speed

As mentioned in my game advertisement, I will maintain, as best as physically possible, a two-day turnaround on posts. That's 48 hours, max. So if you send a post at 7 am Tuesday, while I will try to respond sooner, I am giving myself until 7 am Thursday.
You have the same time frame. I will not consider a post late until 48 hours have passed since I sent mine.
I intend, however, to get posts out within twelve to 36 hours when I can, and would appreciate the same.
If you can't make posts in the time frame mentioned, then please find a way to let me know. I do not penalize or puppet PCs if real life is getting in the way.
If, for some reason, I am unable to send out posts within this time frame, I will let you know, one way or another.

2. Grammar and Spelling

I will confess that I can be a bit of a grammar and spelling nazi. I will do my best to keep this aspect of myself under control. However, I will need some help from the players on that.
Spelling is not the biggest issue. I can usually tell what someone wants to say when words are misspelled. Nonetheless, please try to keep spelling errors at a minimum. Spellcheck can help a lot in that respect.
Word order and word choice are more important. If the context of a sentence is unclear, it doesn't matter if all the words are spelled correctly. Conversely, if the context is clear, spelling becomes even less of an issue. If you know that you have issues with grammar, please take a moment to read over your posts before sending.

3. Writing style - Subject and Tense

As this is a multi-character game, please use Third-Person Limited (See the Wikipedia entry) for your characters, and Third-Person Objective for anything else. As GM, I will almost exclusively use Third-Person Objective.
To maintain a sense of immediacy, please use Present Tense, except where appropriate - such as recounting or remembering past events.
(Bolded for emphasis) Do not, under any circumstances, change the title of the thread. I will be using Thread titles for plot control and advancement guides. Changing the title will throw all of that off. When it's time to create a new thread, I will do so.

4. Narrative Control

Amber allows characters a great deal of control over Shadows and Shadow-people. However, your PCs will not always know whether the world they're on is Real or the people they're dealing with are. So it will occasionally be necessary for me to override your posts to correct some element of the scene. This is not stealing narrative control from you, simply me operating with greater knowledge of the situation.
Under no circumstances should one player ever puppet another PC, without the other player's express permission for that scene.
As GM, I will only puppet PCs in one situation - if multiple PCs are part of a scene that cannot advance without the input of a PC, and the player misses the posting deadline. The sole exception there is if the player has indicated before hand that there will be a delay in posting, so that the other players are aware.
Under no circumstances shall players puppet known Elders. They are Real, and in virtually every case, beyond the abilities of the PCs to control in that fashion

5. Advancement and Growth

Advancement points will be handed out each time I change Thread titles. If I change titles, and you have not received Advancement points after two days, email me to remind me.
I will allow you to spend Advancement points as you see fit. You must, however, keep me up to date on your spending, as I will not be keeping you updated on your character's rank - and if I don't show your character having surpassed the 1st Rank character in points spent, I won't care how many your character sheet shows.
Yes, your character can surpass the 1st rank PC. All you have to do is spend more points in that Attribute than he/she does, and pass the total number of points he/she has spent. Of course, you won't know when you've done so until your character actually gets into a conflict with the other.

6.Archival Emails

Please 'Reply All' to any post sent, unless I say otherwise. The game has an official archivist, and I have an additional email which I use to provide redundancy on posts. Also, please quote at least a portion of the post you're responding to, so the archivist has a guide to where your post goes.

Shadow Earth

At the mid-point of shadow rest shadow Earth. This world has gained a greater reality than many due to frequent visits and stays by Amber's ruling family. Less know is that this is the home of the Ygg, the sacred tree that somehow marks the edge of Order's rule and the beginning of Chao's domain.

A kingdom with no equal.

Perfection reflected through all of shadow.

Amber

Set into the side of Mount Kolvir, Castle Amber looks down upon the sprawling city growing under it's shadow. Down the gentle slope, the city spreads out until it reaches the ocean. A multitude of docks grace the deep water port with ships constantly bringing and trading goods.

This is the public source of Amber's power, trade. With the strange powers the Nobles of Amber wield, a spiderweb of paths have been created between the shadows worlds nearest to Amber. Both Amber and her allies use these paths to trade with each other for mutual profit.

But Amber is not just a weak merchant kingdom, no, she has many powerful defenders. Her waters are guarded by a large fleet of ships, both traders and warships well stocked with experienced sailors. Then there is the great forest of Arden, blocking all entrance by land. Prince Julian's Rangers dutifully guard the pass, allowing no army free entrance.

Even if some force were to make it past Arden and it's defenders, they would find their doom waiting for them on the slopes of Kolvir. A loyal and strong army stands always at the ready. These forces are lead by the greatest General in all reality, Prince Benedict.

Along with Amber, two other great reflections of perfection exist. The first is the deep reflection of Amber hidden under the ocean, Remba. Walk along the pale beach until you find the great stairway of Faiella-Bionin. Bravely decend, for a mysterious world of saltwater and seaweed awaits you below. Fortunately for those that breath air, a spell exists upon the watery kingdom that allows visitors to safely breath.

The second reflection of Amber is not always visable. When the moonlight is at it's strongest and the clouds are few, the shadowy phantom image of Tir-na Nog'th apears in the sky above the city. This is a place of dreams and magic, giving forth visions to those brave enough to visit its cloudy heights. Beware though, visitor, Tir is not wholly the world you know. If you are careless you might find the sun rising to dispell the mist below your feet and the fall is a long one indeed.

Special Rules.
Amber is not the world we know and either by design or chance many things work differently there. Also note that powers may be able to circumvent these rules given the proper application of skill and effort.

Gunpowder does not burn properly in Amber. While it still sputters and smokes, it is not effective for either firearms or explosives. As for normal gunpowder functioning in Arden or farther out, stories differ and Prince Julian isn't talking.

However, something does work in guns; Corwin's legendary rifles were used to repel the forces of Chaos during Patternfall. There is a long standing rumor that the crown has maintained a reserve of these weapons for emergency use, the real truth is unknown.

Complex engines do not function in Amber proper, though family members have managed to get cars a good distance into the forest of Arden. Steam power also fails, though steam can still be used for simple purposes, as evidenced by the working sauna in the castle's gymnasium.

Magic is functional in Amber, though it use seems limited to those who possess some greater degree of power and reality. The general populace of Amber knows of magic but doesn't use in a casual way.

Without the use of magic or reality manipulation, electronics will not function in Amber.

Realms of Amber

These places are the very stages where our drama unfolds. From worlds of beauty and order, to shadows of darkness and magic.

Amber Prime. The real Amber, the shining jewel of Order. Under Kolvier sits the first Pattern.
Remba. The underwater reflection of Amber. In it's depths rests the second Pattern.
Tir-na Nog'th. Ghost city in the sky. Behind fog and shadow hides the third Pattern.
Arden. Primordial forest that shields the land mass of Amber.
The ocean of Amber. A great blue ocean, linking Amber to shadow by many ancient trade routes.

The Golden Circle. Those shadows that rest closest to Amber. Most have trade treaties with Amber, ensuring wealth and cross shadow commerce.

Other Important Shadows. Scattered across all the multiverse, these shadows stand out for various reasons...

Retainers and Lesser Nobility

Captain Lachlan: While also a Court Baron and knight, Lachlan is best known as the Captain of the Castle Guard. Hand picked for the job by Prince Benedict.

Sir Bill Roth: Legal adviser and Official Crown Lawyer. Believed to be a personal friend of Prince Corwin.

Dik: Ancient and wizened man-servant of Oberon. The oldest and most senior of the Castle's staff. Not quite the man he used to be, but he refuses to retire and none of the family has the heart to remove him. Often seen puttering through the halls, doing light duties like dusting and teaching the pages to be respectful of their elders.

Droppa Ma'pantz: Court Jester and entertainer. His current style is something of a cross between Billy Connelly and George Carlin.

Gideon Coat of Arms: A black panther with green eyes, upon a field of green, rampant.

Gideon's trump description: A sturdy looking man stands before a facade of crumbling ruins. His booted foot is raised upon the base of a fallen pillar and in his hands he carries a short staff topped with the basalt head of a jaguar. He looks toward the viewer with green eyes, smiling faintly as if pleased to see company in this lonely place. He is dressed in loose dark cotton, silver designs woven into the cloth as decoration. His hair is dark and long and he sports a short goatee on his well tanned face. Near his throat there a flash of green silk. A useful looking leather belt covered with pouches crosses his chest.

Personality: Gideon is private and introspective, or at least seems to actively cultivate that impression. When he is not stalking deer or worse in Arden, he spends a good deal of time quietly reading the Amber library. Gideon seems to have some personal reservations with social events and has avoided many of the Amber balls and ceremonies he has been invited too. While pleasant and polite enough, he is not quick to make friends and some people have taken this distance as something like arrogance. When encountered hunting or exploring, Gideon seems much more at ease to the few who have met him that way.

Known relationships: Along with Julian, the Rangers of Arden are very familiar with Gideons presence in the woods. He often brings his kills back and offers them up for the Rangers consumption. Gideon has a small estate that is just barely within the confines of Arden proper. It's shared with one of Julian's outposts and Gideon happily allows the Rangers to relax in his large hunting room.
Gideon has had very few public signs of romance or love. The lone standout has been a very dignified and beautiful older woman whom he has been seen escorting through Amber on several occasions.

Physical attributes: Gideon is of slightly taller than average height, possessing a lean and compact frame. While graceful enough, he's not extraordinary in comparison to his peers. He does seem to possess a quality of unnatural stillness about him, a sense of energy waiting to be released.

His normal dress is as described in his trump, sometimes even in amusingly inappropriate situations. It has taken Flora several nagging rants to get Gideon to wear anything resembling formal clothing. Gideon has since worn a tuxedo to a single party thrown by Flora and despite her fawning pleasure at the results he has been reluctant to reappear with it. His hair is a long and dark brown, his eyes are a deep green. On top of his normal tan, Gideon's skin is naturally a light olive tone.

Casting: Oded Fehr.

Unique items: Gideon has taken to carrying around a short staff, perhaps just over a meter and a half in length. The staff is topped with the stylized head of a jaguar carved from basalt. Bright green jade eyes rest in the jaguars head. The staff itself is of dark and smooth wood, with hints of red in its knots and whirls.
Gideon has been seen hunting with a recurved bow bearing the same head and made from similar material.

Eregnor: A stretch of rich and fertile land that rest between Kashfa and Begma. It's ownership is a sour point between the two kingdoms.

Heerat: A less well known trade partner. A shadow of desert coastline and adobe citys.
